engage ny/ eureka simplified!

Hey all!

I am so excited about this resource that I have created. I really enjoyed teaching the Engage NY curriculum, but found it to be a bit lacking in the creative front. I wanted to take the same concepts and rigor and really make it engaging for the students and teachers.

What’s included?

Easy to follow lesson plan

The lesson plan is broken into 5 different parts.

  1. Fluency Warm Up

This will be a whole group activity that takes about 5 minutes to complete. It can be quick math facts, counting games, subitizing numbers or any other fluency concepts that are being taught.

2. Application Problem

The application problem will be a word problem that will either review concepts from a previous lesson or introduce a concept for the lesson that follows. This is a great time for students to share their math thinking and share with the class. There is a table at the bottom where students can put an X or check mark under the concept they used to solve the problem.

3. Concept Development

This section is a whole group lesson with everything you need to teach the new concept. This section will have a complete script of what you can say to teach and the supplies needed. The students will have a worksheet that correlates with what is being taught as well and they will fill it out while the lesson is being taught. I would give students a whiteboard or clipboard and they would bring the worksheet to the carpet to complete whole group.

4. Interactive Notebook

Once the whole group lesson is complete- students will then do an individual assignment to show their learning. I love interactive notebooks because they are fun for students and keep all their learning in one place! Students can always review their previously done pages when they are trying to remember concepts.

5. Games

These games can be used for centers or a game for early finishers. It’s always good to have fun reviews around and there is a game for each of the lessons taught. This really helps with spiraling the material.

6. Homework

There is a homework sheet for each lesson as well! The worksheets are easy to understand for parents and include an answer sheet!
